Houston Property Tax Prop-1 vs. prop-2

does any one remembers, knows CA prop-13? It took Houston 25 years to deal with the problem. may be we're 25 years behind CA!

Our mayor Bill White is propoganding for Prop-1. why? Obviously he doesn't want citizen cutting the city fat budget. yet (and the mayor's own admition) the rate of local property taxes rose almost twice as fast as Houstonians' incomes. Where is it all leads? Obviously to Prop-2
why? Obviously it has been created by a group of caring citizens, and it will force more cost control at the city hall. subsequently, less need to increase taxes. Prop-2 is very similar to Colorado's Taxpair Bill of rights, or TABOR. A very successful implementaion of more financial control on the endless consumption of our local administration.

Comments:
So, somebody is jealous of the Californian specatacular success with prop. 13.
Having undergone the most terrible year of my life in L.A., I can reminisce of the dwindling real public servants (teachers, police officers, firefighters) vs. the entrenched City Hall paper pushers - as a consequence of the famous 13.

Just consider not voting for spenders if you don't care for their performance!

You can do it smart and you can do it stupid. California also de-regulated energy distribution while forbidding the construction of any power plant. Creating un-needed shortage (yeah... I know.. but screaming "Enron..!" does not cover the stupidity)

California has all kind of silly things. Such as the emission control costing thousand of additional dollars more in car costs, or the idiotic unique cocktail of gasoline, making it impssible to shift gas from other states in case of shortage...

California also elect governors they can't stand (Davis) only to be embarrassed about it and recall him out of office in a landslide..

California ain't Texas, thank god:)

On the other hand, there is no end to the addiction of Government to money. None of us is getting raises but the City keeps expecting 15$ raise in revenues each year. If you think something is wrong with this picture vote Prop-2 *smile* Good night kids!
